...of light and shadows...

quaker meetings are completely silent,
unless someone feels moved
to express themselves,
in speech or in song.
quakers believe that this silence
helps them discover the
"still, small voice"
of their conscience or soul.
one morning , hold a ten-minute
"silent meeting" with yourself.
tune intuitively into your inner wisdom,
knowing that if you try
to put into words,
you'll only gain a pale approximation of the truth.
let these deeply-felt insights
inspire you for the
rest of the day.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment
it is again a
day of light and shadows.
please join us at
may you feel inspired today.
just BE.

I had no idea the Quakers had that kind of depth. Silence is important-and to practice it often enough to get past the constant chatter of the mind and to really listen to the voice within.
What a beautiful image too. Feeling quite fall-ish!

The wood is old and weathered, yet feels young with the slight sun upon it. The small leaf sits in the shade, its usefulness in feeding the tree complete. Yet it still hangs on, avoiding the ground for the time being. A lovely frame this is!

Love the ShadowShot. The leaf is not quite at the crunch stage yet. Love those cruchy leaves under foot.

I have a friend who is a Quaker and an atheist...Never knew that was possible!! Have a great week.

I once attended a Quaker meeting, Robin, many years ago, but I've never forgotten the feeling.
Beautiful picture, beautiful advice.

beautiful poem, Robin, to accompany your photo. I am intrigued by the wooden planks. Part of a fence?

I like the blurred background. Looks like fall foliage.

Thanks for visiting me!

That's lovely! And I just clicked on the first photo in your previous post to enlarge it and WOW! I love that image! I'm not quite sure what it is exactly but I love it anyway :)

Love the sense of stillness in your photo! The leaf seems resting in its quiet moment of light and shadow! Beautiful post!

I spend much time in a silent world these days...I remember back when I couldn't stand to be without the radio on and always wondered how my parents could stand it without...now I know...it's the silence, the time of reflection.

I never knew an age that can make you reflect like when you hit your 60's. Time for me slows down, I see more clearly and analyze less, as we come into the thinking season...winter...when we have more time, 'cept if we have lots of snow to shovel...OMG, I said the 'S'word...eeeeeee!!!

Hope Tilda had a great showing, wish I could've been there, but alas, a flat tire and outrageous tire expenses, kept me close to home..VERY CLOSE!

Have a sunny Sunday, wonderful football shots...try to stay warm!!!

thanks to all who stopped by shadow shots...
@ sylvia it is a good reminder...if only it were easier to do.
@ paula-it is quite fall-ish. it is going to get into the 20's tonight. my black-eyed susans were covered with frost this morning...
@ ralph-it was a windy day when i took this photo. the leaf was fighting hard to hang on.
@ cassie-a "quaker and an atheist" seems very odd indeed.
@ kay- i've never experience a quaker meeting. but i like the idea of silences.
@ patti-the background is the ground with leaves on it. with the frost those leaves will fall fast. the photo is of a swing seat.
@ girls-i am so glad you stop by and can find some inspiration.
@ nana-thanks and thanks for stopping by.
@ h.h.-the previous picture is of a milkweed. it is a host plant for Monarch butterflies during the summer and then in the fall the pod bursts open realeasing all it's seeds. i love to photography the little whispy seedlets. the pods are quite interesting also.
@ gemma-it is funny that the photo projects stills...as it was actually quite windy. the leaf was holding on for dear life.

What a lovely picture!
Love your description of the Quaker meeting. I was at one over 30 years ago and still remember its peacefulness.

Pretty SS! Quaker meetings sound really nice...a bit like group meditation. Silence is good. I think there should be more of it:)

Stunning photo. Love how the angular shapes and curved shapes set off against one another. Love the words too.
