...from beyond the curtains...

“The Chair
I’m writing to you, who made the archaic wooden chair
look like a throne while you sat on it.

Amidst your absence, I choose to sit on the floor,
which is dusty as a dry Kansas day.

I am stoic as a statue of Buddha,
not wanting to bother the old wooden chair,

which has been silent now for months.
In this sunlit moment I think of you.

I can still picture you sitting there--
your forehead wrinkled like an un-ironed shirt,

the light splashed on your face,
like holy water from St. Joseph’s.

The chair, with rounded curves
like that of a full-figured woman,

seems as mellow as a monk in prayer.
The breeze blows from beyond the curtains,

as if your spirit has come back to rest.
Now a cloud passes overhead,

and I hush, waiting to hear what rests
so heavily on the chair’s lumbering mind.

Do not interrupt, even if the wind offers to carry
your raspy voice like a wispy cloud.”
― Jarod KintzA Letter to Andre Breton, Originally Composed on a Leaf of Lettuce With an Ink-dipped Carrot

last weekend.
Sunday.
i had a cobweb above the fireplace mantel.
for some reason.
that led me to move three large pieces of furniture.
between the living room and dining room.
seven hours of cleaning and rearranging later.
with a coffee break with my folks in between.
i was done.
i am not sure where that burst of energy came from.
but i am happy with the end results.
no sun today.
a continuation of snowing and blowing.
but just enough light to make this shadow.
and a quote about a chair.
enjoy the moments.
just BE.

...1.19.14...

~storypeople

january needs to try on.
some different colored shirts.
grey has become so predictable.
i am out of sorts.
as i have not had time with my camera.
life has me doing other things.
i must change that.
tho probably not today.
snowing and blowing outside.
behappy.
the principle thing
in this world
is to keep one's soul aloft.

...keep any moment...

Sitting there in your pajamas & all the time in the world
& if I could keep any moment it would be this:
watching you & holding my breath with the wonder of it all.
~storypeople

such a busy day.
worked in am.
make up basketball game at one.
home briefly.
then off again.
gosh.
one would think it was summer time.
the shadow.
a moscato from a friend.
not my first choice that night.
but a wine all the same.
happy weekend.
enjoy the moments.
just BE.

...1.12.14...

bereal.

the true harvest of my daily life
is somewhat as intangible and indescribable
as the tints of morning or evening.
it is a little stardust caught,
a segment of the rainbow which i have clutched.
~henry david thoreau

from the book be

yesterday.
where walking.
was an adventure.
and the rail sled.
would not stay straight because it was so icy.
one does not enjoy.
the sound of rain in winter.
it is not the earthy smell.
as in the spring.
it is cold.
and harsh.
but it was what the day brought.
and people got out and around yesterday.
we are constantly asked.
by the universe.
to adapt.
and we do.
we must.
life is here and it is now
i for one.
don't want to let it pass me by.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.

...petals on water..

“You have to believe it and you hate it. I don't have to and I think it's beautiful.”
― Katherine PatersonBridge to Terabithia

this photo.
when i sit and ponder about it.
brings to mind.
Bridge to Terabithia
the girl.
loved life.
her journey was an adventure.
and she lived it every.
single.
day.
****
my shadow shot is borrowed from august '12
my heart would delight.
in green hues.
and a warm sun for shadows.
but after the frozen tundra with -30 below on monday.
we are 37 degrees and rain today.
rain + snow = ice
the adventure for today.
rail sledding.
the day is going to be.
what it is going to be.
how you choose to be in it.
that is up to you.
enjoy the moments.

...1.5.14...

the holidays are over, decorations are down and sissy is back at school.

"...do you really want to be happy?
just pay attention and be kind, unconditionally kind,
on this breath alone.
forget about the future. just this breath.
no matter what the circumstances, just be kind.
friend, lover, family member, someone who seems to hate you,
someone you've never met on the street, your own soft animal body.
just be kind in whatever way is appropriate.
everything else will work itself out,
and you will begin to sense your own Pure Heart everywhere.
how amazing.

very simple.
just be kind.
only on this breath."

this morning.
after i had taken my coffee photo.
and as i was drinking my first cup.
i started to take.
the online, government census survey.
after 15 minutes of filling out info, with no end in sight.
i hit save and logged out.
i know at some point.
we will not be able to breathe without asking the government for permission.
so i stopped the survey.
and regained my happy focus.
with Molokai Girl's post from yesterday.
i aspire to just be.
and this survey took me far away from that this morning.
this country is headed in directions.
that is no longer about.
We The People.
so this morning.
government does not get to ruin my coffee time.
this morning.
i control what i can.
to be kind.
it is that simple.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.

...their own reality...

photo on mirror by joanne rose

"Don't Take Anything Personally.
Nothing others do is because of you.
What others say and do is a projection of their own
reality, their own dream.
When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others,
you won't be the victim of
needless suffering"
 ~ Miguel Ruiz

this was posted on FB by
hmmmm.
perhaps easier said than done.
but on the other hand.
very freeing.
now if we could just get.
out of our own heads sometimes.

...live in the moment...

take today and make it count.
listen to your heart and take action now.
today is here.
tomorrow is not promised but is anticipated with much hope.
all that you do, say and feel sets the stage for the future
so remember that this moment has the power
to ensure tomorrow's happiness.
adorn yourself with the Live in the Moment Charm
and open yourself up to the opportunities in today.

you may have seen their commercial.
last year during the super bowl.
i ordered a best friend set.
and i sent "friend" to my bestie.
for her birthday.
and kept "best" for myself.
well this year.
the other half of my bracelet.
gave me this bracelet for my birthday.
i just LOVE it.
i took a photo of it for the prompt at.
it seemed like a good reminder.
to start the new year.

...this is to be my symphony...

"To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion,
to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich;
to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly,
to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully,
to all bravely await occasions, hurry never.
In a word, to let the spiritual unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony."
 --William Henry Channing

happy new year.

are of the year past.
