their silent wounds have speech
more eloquent than men;
their tones can deeper reach
than human voice or pen.
~William Woodman

i mowed the lawn yesterday.
the same lawn .
i mowed as a kid.
i have always, always loved this task.
i tried to remember,
what it was i would have been thinking about
back then.
riding around this yard.
what movie my boyfriend and i were going to go see?
why does my sister wears my clothes?
i need to study for that test on monday.
the yard was much more open then.
there are many more obstacles to go around.
in the yard.
and in my mind.
kids, bills, work.
so much more to go through my mind.
as i go around this yard.
and yet.
the same happy, contented feeling i had back then.
is still with me today.
this is my happy place.
and the breath goes in and out.
and i can smile.
because at the end of the day.
the simple task of mowing the lawn makes me happy.
and no matter what obstacles are in my way.
right at this moment...
they don't matter.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.
happy birthday
to my handsome husband...
make a wish...
love you.

differs from recklessness
in coming from a strong, mature assessment.
a reckless person has
not anticipated the likeliest consequences:
a courageous person has,
and is ready to face
any eventuality that
might arise,
even the ones that cannot be foreseen.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment
courage was.
letting this big...thing...
pick him up.
maybe because it was cold,
maybe because it was wet.
courage to hold on
as this big thing.
walked across the yard.
taking it from it's hiding place in the grass.
courage to sit there.
holding on.
with this big thing watching.
as the sun warmed it's body.
as the sun dried it's wings.
courage to take flight,
not because it was scared,
but because it was ready.
compassion of a boy.
who would rather
patiently wait and discover.
than squish it from existence.
i too, am watching, his wings...
this was my priceless moment.

...silent sun...

a wildfire burned
in northern michigan a
couple of nights ago.
the fire was
about and hour and a half
north east of us.
it provided us with
this most magnificent sky.
unfortunately many, many thousands
of acres burned and structures
were lost.
i hold these people in my thoughts and prayers.
"give me the splendid silent sun with all his beams full-dazzling"

the only thing that could spoil a day
was people.
People were always the limiters
of happiness
except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.

...put forth the leaf...

"we ought to think that we are one of the leaves
of a tree,
and the tree is all humanity.
we cannot live without
the others,
without the tree."
~Pablo Casals

...of letting go...

"and the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to bloom." - anais nin
this has always,
always been a
favorite tree of mine.
ever since i was little
and climbed it's branches.
and sat beneath it in it's shade
eating one of it's apples.
it is old.
it is tired.
this poem makes me think of this tree.
(yeah i'm not sure why either)
it is dying...
already gone.
it can not hold on any longer.
it is shedding it's skin.
the summer past...was it's last.
to stay alive was more painful than it was to let go.
it let go.
it could not.
hold on.
any longer.
it's spirit is free.
just BE.

the answer is blowin' in the wind." ~bob dylan
the sheets were drying out
after getting wet
from friday night's rain.
the sheets had been covering
the flower beds from frost.
i took delight in
sitting on the porch
to the sheets.
blowing in the wind.
one more day closer.
