...physical embodiment of human energy...

Every decently-made object, from a house to a lamp post to a bridge, spoon or egg cup, is not just a piece of 'stuff' but a physical embodiment of human energy, testimony to the magical ability of our species to take raw materials and turn them into things of use, value and beauty.

All the wood in this photo makes me long for the days when we weren't surrounded by so much plastic!

Wow I love this capture and I think it goes perfectly with Mr. McCloud's quote...

I like this spoon. It was fabricated by hand in a day where the experienced metal maker without blueprints but with an artisan's touch instead. There is nothing wrong with spoons of today being manufactured precisely on computer controlled stamping press...however, back then it was real skill and artistry. A lost art...

So very true! In addition, it also embodies the kind of energy that went in to it.

The practicality of the placement says volumes about the person who lives there.
