...for the solace of ordinary humanity...

Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity.
~John Ruskin

Mythology of the Crocus Flower
crocus was a friend (and perhaps lover) of the Greek god Hermes. one day as the two were playing, Hermes accidentally hit and killed his friend with a discus. a small flower grew at the place of the accident. three drops of Crocus’ blood fell on the center of the flower and formed the spots on this plant. the flower takes the name crocus because of this event.

imagine.
my surprise.
...and really it shouldn't have been.
to come around.
the corner of the house.
to see these purple beauties.
now.
i've been out to this spot.
several times this week.
and nothing.
not even the crocus shoots were up.
but today.
because, i believe, i needed it most.
there they were.
flowers.
are my addiction.
and to top it off.
there were four bees.
very happy to see the flowers.
i've said it before.
i'll proudly stand by it again.
i am a simple girl.
that takes delight in the simple things.
like a bee,
in a flower,
creating a shadow.
it doesn't get much better than that.
light + objects = shadows
sun and sixty today.
yeah spring.
just BE.
robin.

I'm with ya lil' sis...the simple life...I charted my midlife numbers yesterday and they told me that I'm ecentric and a loner, that if I wasn't on top of it, I'd be pennyless, but happy...sounds like a plan to me!!!

My morning was filled with chores, cleaning the tupperware temporary digs of the peeps...they are all so curious right now, they follow me back and forth across the kitchen, as I make soap for the Candle Shed this AM. 70's today and tomorrow and maybe some scary storms, but tomorrow the lil' peeper(edit)poopers will graduate to their permanent home. They will stay inside unless I'm out there with...can't wait to see their first reaction to hay...and grass.

Yup, the simple life, pennyless, but rich in spirit...RIGHT!!!

Hey Tilda...SOON!!!

Simple is best and less is more.
We don't have any flowers nor green yet. But today it's been a real spring sunny day, at last!

Flowers are often forgotten as he live our hurried lives. Yet, the new growth needs to catch our attention. We ought to look at and really smell the flowers. To slow down, reflect and clear our minds if only briefly. Flowers tell us to slow down and reflect on nature's garden. We owe that to ourselves!

Crocus are so magical and beautiful. And they suddenly flower when you least expect them too. I love the gorgeous daisy background to your blog post too, Robin. Happy SS Sunday.

Crocuses! Spring has come! If I could put my nose in their little purple hearts and smell the fragrance, I would be drunk with ecstasy!

WELCOME THE SHADOWS

Welcome the shadows surrounding your life,
Treat them as lover or husband or wife;
Welcome them in as you would one who’s dear;
Hug them, embrace them without any fear;
Honor, respect them, and give them their due,
For shadow and light are both parts of you.

Hip hip hooray!! No crocus yet here, but I do have grape hyacinths all over the yard :) It sure makes a girl's heart sing doesn't it?!!
I don't think I ever heard the story of the crocus....and I always loved Greek Mythology. Plus, my son is at a track meet yet....yep...throwing discus (hopefully he doesn't hit anyone with it!!) ha!
Have a great week!!

Yummy purples! It must be Spring... I had a crocus in my shadow shots today, too :) LOVE yours - especially the middle one with the little bee shadow in profile.
