...pleasure's lie thickest...

"pleasures lie thickest where no pleasures seem:
there's not a leaf that falls upon the ground
but holds some joy of silence or of sound,
some spirits begotten of a summer dream."
-   Laman Blanchard
novenber 5th.
a day of snow.
today the remains
lie only on the fringes of the yard.
the first snow,
i will admit.
is pretty.
but, to me, not appreciated.
shadows, however, are.
here's to summer dreams-
to sustain us through the coming months
of winter.
just BE.

The winter cometh, we all know. The strong southern sun leaves strong shadows on the deck, that we can see and enjoy. The leaf seems to say that it is still autumn, and a nice day or two will occur. Winter awaits, however not today...

Perfect shot and it definitely speaks to me! I wasn't ready for the cold this year! Snow is pretty, but I could do just as well without it! Hope you have a great weekend, Robin, stay warm!

I hope it will be quite a few weeks before we see any snow!! I love your shadow shot, and the quote.

An intriguing pattern of shadows crisscrossing the boards. Somehow suggests the day's end - the photo very poetic in itself!

Here's to the memories of languid summer days and warm welcome summer evenings.

Love that first line of the poem you have selected! It voices the feeling I had when I saw your delightful shadow photo!

And you have snow? We are still staggering out of wintry chills hoping that Spring decides to stay for more than a couple of hours!

Thank you so much for being so prompt seeing my shadow shot! It wasn't even linked up!

Enjoy your weekend!

I love the neutral colors. The warmth and the cool.

Yes, it's a quiet beauty, the moment of the fall...BUT then the chaos of driving to and from or just down the unploughed lanes or out of a parking space you barely got into, the black ice, the frozen noses and eyeballs, the lost mittens and long underwear...is it Spring yet!!! I'm a not a winter fan, it cuts into my profits!!! But who doesn't love Autumn...beautiful!!!

Love Sarah's haircut, a brave and thoughtful girl, I'm still braving it, as mine is as long as hers WAS!!! I'm growing it just to see how long it will be before I go insane...she knows what I mean!

See ya for coffee lil' sister...say hello to six eyes for me...tell her gray sweatshirts go divine with duct tape...s

Lovely subtle shadow shot Sarah, and the verse is gorgeous.

Snowing already? Maybe that means that the sooner it starts snowing the sooner the snow finishes. Not that I'd know how it all works as it doesn't snow where I am. Doesn't get cold enough. Phew! Sending sunny warm thoughts your way. Have a lovely week and keep warm Robin :)

Yes, indeed. So much truth in so few words! And, a perfect example to 'illustrate' it with!

Interesting intersection of lines. I like the softness of the shadows.
