...the very craving...

“to crave and to have are as like as a thing and its shadow.
for when does a berry break upon the tongue as sweetly
as when one longs to taste it, and when is the taste refracted
into so many hues and savors of ripeness and earth, and when do our
senses know any thing so utterly as when we lack it?
and here again is a foreshadowing --
the world will be made whole.
for to wish for a hand on one's hair is all but to feel it.
so whatever we may lose,
very craving gives it back to us again.”
― marilynne robinson
it is a morning of.
seemingly warm sunshine.
but.
it is deceiving.
windy and cold.
no matter.
it is sunshine.
check out shadows from
around the hemispheres.
have a wonderful day.
just BE.
robin.

  1. I like your equation....very clever and perfect to go with your shot this week. I especially like the etude of the fabric in the background and the table. It works beautifully with the pitcher. I really like your header. I posted a picture back after Christmas of 2 clothespins together on an old line. What is there ab out old clothespins that pulls us in. If you have the answer just let me know. Genie

  2. Shadows would not exist without light, and especially without the illumination of the sun. Our shadows below represent life, we and it move along together through our lives - sun is always the best part of a cold and windy day, it allows us to view the day in the most optimistic way...

  3. The Robinson quote is quite nice..the type to read, and read again.

We're enjoying sunshine at the moment, between the storms. Your sunshine does look warm, even if its not.

  5. Great shadow shot and words for the day as always, Robin!! It's raining again here -- rained all night, supposed to rain for most of the week! The temps aren't bad, but if it's wet it seems colder than it is! Hope you have a good weekend! Stay warm -- and dry!

  9. Robin girl I can see so many details to this shadow shot .. the opposing layers of texture from each surface .. the light and shadow .. it looks simple at first and then looking closer it is far more complex .. such as the quote is !
    Joy : )

  13. Love the fabric texture - as if keeping the shadows in place round the pitcher and letting the pitcher's shadow have its own identity! A calming image!

  19. Beautiful post!
No more snow here neither :) It was raining here yesterday but we still have some snow left..mostly dirty. Now we need a couple of warm weeks and it would be spring.
    Have a good week ahead!
