...winter trees...

winter trees
all the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
a liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.
~ William Carlos Williams

the bottom tree
has glints of snow for leaves.
again, sometimes...
snow can be pretty.
but the shadows...
they are always great!!
and you can see for yourself.
it's another snowy,
sunless,
saturday
(hey a new meme)
in michigan.
just BE.

  1. The shadowy world allows our imaginations to work overtime as we guess the subject. I really like the top view as I see in the shadow a cat stretching after he awakens. The bottom look is simpler, the slender tree shadow is elegant and simple. The best part of winter is now doubt the combination of sun, snow and shadow...

  5. That's one thing for sure, snow shadows are the very best -- but I don't want to say that too loud are it might come visit us here in Seattle and it's gray enough as it is!! Always love your shadow shots, Robin! Hope you have a great weekend!

  11. What delightful shadows. That first one looks more like a Hallowe'en cat than a tree shadow.

  12. The shadow of an alpacca in the snow? It can't be! A dog perhaps? Delightful.

  13. Sunless Saturday, now that's depressing, but alas, it is again, though we have 41 degrees today. I'll never see it being in a mall, but we were busy, so I guess it's a give or take, but at least it's still light out when I get home from work...it's coming!!!

I gotta get over to High Buttoned Shoe Tilda, need some ol'timey, warm and fuzzy feelin's, know what I mean...it's thawing like crazy here today...BUT NOT ENOUGH!!! They say there's a good chance Iowa will flood this year...was that a brilliant deduction...brainiacs!!!

  15. Beautiful shadows from the trees on the snow. The tones in the photos are lovely. Sunless here as well--in fact it's raining. My shadows were done indoors.

  19. That first shadow shot looks like a black cat arching its back. Can you see the tail sticking straight up?

    IF YOU SEE A SHADOW

    If you see a shadow
And want to keep it near,
    Point your trusty shooter
    (Make sure the lens is clear);
    Press with care the shutter,
Do not slam or sock it—
    Then you’ll have a photo
    To carry in your pocket!
