...8.29.10...

of winding down.
of settling into that slower pace.
of soaking in those last days
of august sun.
of crisp starry evenings.
of heavy dewy grass mornings.
of the sound of crows instead of song birds.
of the sound of crickets.
of trying your best to be.
and others telling you it's not good
enough.
of believing them.
of sadness.
of changing seasons.
outside.
and inside.
but mostly inside.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.

...august break-day twenty-seven...

“ maybe some things need to be seen
before you know that they're there.
but once seen,
they are felt.
and once felt,
you are changed forever. ”

...august break-day twenty-six...

it's a dad kind of thing to protect you
and see that the world treats you right,
to offer his willing asistance any hour
of the day or the night,
it's a dad kind of thing to stand by you
if one of your bubbles should burst,
to make sure you know you're important
and know that with him you come first,
to give you his all but still wonder
if there's something more he could do...
it's a dad kind of thing to keep showing
that he'll always be there for you.
happy birthday dad.

...8.22.10...

arden max engler
april 12, 1924-september 28 1977
he came to her-
my mom
in a dream in 1996.
he said to her...
i am not dead.
i did not die.
i will live forever.
and she believed him.
this sampler.
one of many that she has worked
is for him.

do not stand at
my grave and weep
i am not there
i do not sleep
i am a thousand
winds that blow
i am the sunlight
on ripened grain
i am the diamond
glints of snow
i am the gentle
autumn rain
do not stand at
my grave and cry
i am not there
i did not die.
~Mary Elizabeth Frye
he was too young.
which made me too young.
but i remember.
his pipe.
his eyes that always sparkled.
his laugh.
his white socks.
the way he bent his toes
at the sight of you pretending
you might tickle his feet.
his lunch box.
his thermos for coffee.
and when i close my eyes.
and sit in stillness.
i can see all those things.
and i remember.
thank you tammy,
for posting this picture to fb.
i have never seen it.
it is the most beautiful picture...
of a great, great man.
who left us too early.
but who we will see again.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.

...august break-day twenty-one...

if you have nothing at all to create,
then perhaps you create yourself.
~ carl jung
i think everyday
we are creating
ourselves.
profound or small.
whether visible to someone else
or not.
you know.
never stop creating.
light + objects=shadows
it's that time again.

...august break-day nineteen...

here’s the plan for the August break: you simply share one photo (or more!) per day on your blog – Monday to Friday, or every day. Or whenever you want. Using any camera – DSLR, compact, Polaroid, Holga, iPhone (my choice), Instax, 35mm, video – with or without words – anything goes – for the whole of August. No pressure - just looking at August through your camera lens as a way to be more present this summer. And to have a little break from the pressures and expectations of regular blogging. There are NO RULES! Just sunshine (hopefully) and a bit of fun. And lots of lovely photos to look at.

...8.15.10...

my sunday morning
came on saturday.
i had so hoped
to capture.
him.
coming to his new life.
but.
under the cover of darkness.
and.
all alone.
he came to be.
without me.
i wasn't there.
to tell him.
he was going to be okay.
i wasn't there .
to tell him.
to be patient.
good things were coming.
he knew.
all on his own.
that is.
this miracle of nature.
that is.
this miracle of life.
through the darkness.
through the cocoon
that life has wrapped around us.
we are never alone.
Someone.
is always there.
cheering us on.
showing the way.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.

...august break-day fourteen...

however, a sensitive reader--
and all children are sensitive readers--
notices that the little rabbit begins
to show signs of being real from
the moment that he learns
that such a thing is possible.
the essence of what is real--
kindness, empathy and individuality--
is already inside the rabbit.
it was born in him.
but the pressure of living among
toys who value only mechanical perfection
and the most modern ideas--
the way people prize technology
and follow momentary fads--
made him insecure.
it would take some time for him
to feel secure and completely comfortable
just being himself.
but the process was helped by the love he received
as he allowed himself to be ever more honest
about who he really was
on the inside.
~the velveteen principles
toni raiten-d'antonia
i love this book.
...to be ever more honest
about who he really
was
on
the
inside.
you know it's there...
who or what
is stopping you
from believing
in
you.
light + objects = shadows
for more shadows
than you thought possible.
happy birthday grandma byers...
you are loved beyond this life...for always.
just BE.
