...july brings harmony...
sultry, steaming, sweltering, july.
slow down.
or stop.
it's time to shed ambition and expectation,
along with commutes, clothing, cellular phones, calendars.
now our wants seem to diminish.
is it because our needs are met?
a shady nook, a cold drink, a cool breeze--
whether indoors or out.
a respite from the rigors of the day.
time off for good behavior.
summer is not so much a season as a melody,
that tune of contentment we hum as the days begin to beautifully blur.
the pursuit of happiness becomes our personal priority this month,
as the sweet strains of the fourth simple abundance principle-
harmony
-start to be heard in our hearts.
~borrowed from
simple abundance:a daybook of comfort and joy.
third day of
rain and 56 degrees.
yesterday felt like october...
humming with gritted teeth does
not seem like contentment...
we are waiting on summer here.
i was wrapped up in a blanket last night
while watching tv.
i could not keep my eyes open.
it dawned on me as to why.
with it being cold and dreary out...
it is like the start of hibernation season around here.
if it were sunny and warm...
i would be outside enjoying
the sun's last ray
turned into twilight.
i am not fond of hibernation, no i am not.

...6.28.09...
after first cutting,
i did a tribute to my
grandpa herm
on high button shoe.
i wrote of the memories
i have of doing hay with my grandpa.
i spoke of how he never called me to say
"are you ready"
i would just hear the tractor start, i would just know
and i would wait until the tractor, hay baler and wagon
pulled into the yard.
it was always the hottest day of the week
when the hay was ready.
i was pretty stubborn, at times,
if i was going to be out in the sun...i was going to get a tan...
i usually baled hay in a halter top, which left me with
lots of scraps and scratches... lots of chafe sticking
to my sweaty body...
but tan.
i love those memories that came back,
every year,
at this time.
we no longer do the hay.
there is no longer a baler
that shoots the bale to you.
this baler is round and it just leaves the bale in the field.
ah, progress...
but never the less...
the smell,
the sounds,
of the field being cut,
the windrows,
the baling process.
it's all right here...
in my mind.
in my heart.
forever.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.

...rocking chair...
My Rocking-Chair
by Robert William Service
When I am old and worse for wear
When I am old and worse for wear
I want to buy a rocking-chair,
And set it on a porch where shine
The stars of morning-glory vine;
With just beyond, a gleam of grass,
A shady street where people pass;
And some who come with time to spare,
To yarn beside my rocking-chair.
Then I will light my corn-cob pipe
And dose and dream and rarely gripe.
My morning paper on my knee
I won't allow to worry me.
For if I know the latest news
Is bad,--to read it I'll refuse,
Since I have always tried to see
The side of life that clicks with glee.
And looking back with days nigh done,
I feel I've had a heap of fun.
Of course I guess that more or less
It's you yourself make happiness
And if your needs are small and few,
Like me you may be happy too:
And end up with a hope, a prayer,
A chuckle in a rocking-chair.
i will not think back on my corn cob pipe...
but i will reflect
back
on how simple things made me
happy...
like sitting in my rocking chair.

...6.21.09...
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of ages,
The power of the eagles’ flight,
The joy of a spring morning,
The faith of a mustard seed,
And the depth of a family need.
Then God combined these qualities
And there was nothing more to add.
He knew his masterpiece was complete
And so he called it DAD. ~unknown
