...you get what you measure...

"you get what you measure. measure the wrong thing and you get the wrong behaviors."
- John H. Lingle

i used to measure the Heavens,
now i measure the shadows of earth.
the mind belonged to Heaven,
the body's shadow lies here.
johannes kepler

i was so intrigued by
this shadow.
the ruler lies one way.
and the shadow is running another.
i am sure there is
an explanation.
but it doesn't matter.
i just like the shadow created here.
it made me smile.
when i saw it.
stop on by and check them out.
it was seven when i got up.
as i type it is now ten.
good morning for warm socks.
and hot coffee.
enjoy.
just BE.

  2. I notice that this old measuring device was made in the USA - it looks like quality! The shadows seem to fall upon an old workbench. Perhaps both of these were owned and used by a purveyor of woodworking beauty...Was 7, now 10 - there must be a chill that has settled over MI. Keep warm!

  3. This is interesting isn't it? I asked my husband, aka Mr.Brain, and he didn't know why the shadow went in the opposite direction either. (He thought it was the shadow of something else.) It is a great Shadow Shot in any event! Happy SSS.

  4. That is so interesting, Robin! I love it and what a great shadow shot for the day -- regardless of which way the shadows run! Have a great weekend!

  7. Oh, that is interesting - how cool! I'm also charmed with this photo, because I used to have a ruler just like that - I can still remember how it feels to unfold it... ahh :)
Thanks for the memories, and have a great week!

  9. Isn't it funny how we look the world with different eyes now, hunting shadows have open our eyes. How cool is that!
Today no Ms Marple work :), only a long and hard Nordic walk on the beach...no sun. snif.
    Happy Sunday!

  10. Hmmm..that IS quite interesting how the shadows don't seem to "match" the object. I really like the quote you have under the photo, too.

  11. The ruler's shadow almost seems to be part of a dialogue! There is the ruler and there is the quiet answer! Fascinating photos! And love your shadow quote! I will add it to the SSS2 list with a link to this post!

  15. Very interesting shot, I wonder why the shadow goes in that direction.

I love the ruler, it looks very old.
