"Having a wheel and four legs of its own
Has never availed the cumbersome grindstone
To get it anywhere that I can see.
These hands have helped it go, and even race;
Not all the motion, though, they ever lent,
Not all the miles it may have thought it went,
Have got it one step from the starting place.
It stands beside the same old apple tree.
The shadow of the apple tree is thin
Upon it now its feet as fast in snow.
All other farm machinery's gone in,
And some of it on no more legs and wheel
Than the grindstone can boast to stand or go."
Has never availed the cumbersome grindstone
To get it anywhere that I can see.
These hands have helped it go, and even race;
Not all the motion, though, they ever lent,
Not all the miles it may have thought it went,
Have got it one step from the starting place.

In the middle of that stone lies a great mystery. Who is brave enough to plumb its depths?
ReplyDeleteI used to have a grinding wheel, but alas, it went away with the marriage...but I got the school bell...ha!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am really ticked at playlist, they said an ad every 20 minutes, but it was more like every other song, why does it always have to be about the money...I am so ready to go off grid!!! I find myself turning more and more to homesteading blogs, check out the new one I posted on my sidebar, great info there...if it was only that easy to walk away, I'd be gone!!!
Have a great Sarah's open house...66 degrees here in Ioway...laundry hanging in the kitchen...life is good, thanks for the java!
Barefoot today Tilda???
Love your butterfly and the grindstone! Great shadow shot for the day as always, Robin! Hope you have a lovely, sunny weekend! Enjoy!

The grindstone is a useful implement, hopefully taking some of the force and drudgery out of the task at hand. Perhaps adding a wee bit of leisure to the time away from the playing field. To earn that time of rest we all need...
ReplyDeleteYour macro of the grindstone is a fine one. I love the way your shot picked up the light and texture of the stone. Lovely photography. genie
