...august break-day fourteen...

however, a sensitive reader--
and all children are sensitive readers--
notices that the little rabbit begins
to show signs of being real from
the moment that he learns
that such a thing is possible.
the essence of what is real--
kindness, empathy and individuality--
is already inside the rabbit.
it was born in him.
but the pressure of living among
toys who value only mechanical perfection
and the most modern ideas--
the way people prize technology
and follow momentary fads--
made him insecure.
it would take some time for him
to feel secure and completely comfortable
just being himself.
but the process was helped by the love he received
as he allowed himself to be ever more honest
about who he really was
on the inside.

i love this book.
...to be ever more honest
about who he really
was
on
the
inside.
you know it's there...
who or what
is stopping you
from believing
in
you.
light + objects = shadows
for more shadows
than you thought possible.
happy birthday grandma byers...
you are loved beyond this life...for always.
just BE.

  1. Happy Birthday Gram...I too never forget my Granny's birthday, April 10th...

I found a cocoon nestled inside the drying head of a Queen Ann's lace yesterday...how wonderful to feel such safety in a simple lil' abode...I'm all about it, how 'bout you...thanks for the coffee!!!

  2. These are really lovely. I really like the texture of the wood and the contrast between the natural leaf shadow patterns and the rectilinear boards...which have their own internal natural patterns.

  3. The Velveteen Rabbit was real after all! He insisted he was, and the 'real' rabbits didn't believe him. They were wrong, belief in one's being and purpose matters...I love the velvety flower, it looks so much like a starfish in the garden. Beauty is all around, and you have so nicely captured it!
