...self propelled flowers...

butterflies are self propelled flowers.
R.H. Heinlein
happiness is like a butterfly which,
when pursued,
is always beyond our grasp,
but,
if you will sit down quietly,
may alight upon you.
Nathaniel Hawthorne
just like the butterfly,
i too
will awaken
in my
own time.
Deborah Chaskin
there is a
sadness that
comes over me
when driving down
my country road
and i hit a butterfly.
i will actually slow down
if i am given enough
warning of the little
beings presence.
crazy i know.
but they are
here for such
a short time...
light + objects = shadows
take flight on
butterfly wings and join us at
may you experience
the stillness of a butterfly
on your shoulder today.
just BE.

  1. I sooooo know what yer talkin about, that's why I always have a line behind me...a butterfly's life is fleeting...why rush it! I hit a big ol' dragon fly the other day and felt remorse...it's a good thing to care about the wee things in life!

Congrats on the test...are you trying to tell me something...ha...I know I need help of some sort, especially with the tools of the trade...ha!

Hey Tilda...muddy tootsies this week, is it ever gonna stop raining!

This is a lovely shot - the butterfly so sharp and clear against the soft leaves. I don't think you're crazy to slow down for butterflies - perhaps the world would be a better place if we all valued the life of even little things like butterflies!

  13. A very beautiful butterfly with strongly patterned colour prettily "sitting" on a bed of shadows! And love your words! In my case, I have to often slow down with so many birds flying across the road!

  14. Butterlies are self propelled flowers? I LOVE that! I must remember that one!

It seems wrong somehow that these beautiful harmless creatures have such a short time on this earth. I think they do make the most of their precious time here though! A wonderful shadowy capture! Enjoy the rest of your weekend Robin :)
